Apline and Marfa TX

Howdy! - My wife and I went out to the wide open spaces of Big Bend country for a little rest and relaxation and we loved it. Truly a unique part of Texas that we highly recommend.

While planning our visit we looked at several places to stay and found an array of different places.

  • There’s El Cosmico where you can stay in a trailer or tent (my favorite)
  • Thunderbirds which is a 1959 hotel renewed in the spirit of modern Marfa.
  • The famous Paisano Hotel that housed the cast and crew of Giant in 1955.
  • Our favorite: the Holland Hotel in Alpine Texas

Time moves a little slower out in Big Bend country so if your looking for a high-energy place then keep looking but if you need a break from the rat race then this place is near perfect. Great landscapes and big skies…we enjoyed the Holland Hotel, the rugged country side between Marfa, Fort Davis and Alpine, eating like royalty at the original Reata Restaurant, perusing Marfa’s Highland Street and stumbling across Kokernot Field which is the best baseball park in Texas.
